:)

Hi!

Keerthi here. My com was screwed so i couldn't really post anything.
Anyways, hi section. Um, well, I want to apologize for the section outing. RANDALL is still
deciding on a date so idk what to do. But as for now, I doubt thats our concern. Its about three weeks to SYF. And time is really running out. With instructors course, teaching sec ones, school re-opening, we must really manage time well. Its gonna be stressful, but if our hard work pays off,
we can be content with our results :) So just put in extra effort, and strive for the gwh. Many people have said our band is capable of such and i for one think so. Its the last sprint for the long marathon, so do your best.

best of luck,
keerthi

EXAMS ARE OVER!!!!!

Yo what up peeps! Exams are over!!!! Awesome!!!! But as bandsmen, we still have the responsibility of SYF. So remember to have fun, but concentrate on music also!! :) We'll be having a section outing soon, supposed to have one next friday but theres mass swim. :( You'll be notified about the details when we settle the date. Any suggestions are welcome also. Since exams are over, let's all try to stay back to practice k? Don't over stress yourself though, just work towards the GWH!! :)   Soooo...... anything cool you're planning to do after exams? Personally, I'm gonna buy a keyboard and try to learn piano. :D Share whatever activities you're gonna do k? HAVE FUN!!!! WEEEEEE!!!!

- With love, Randall. :P

Food for Thought

Remember to nuture the future of the drum section to your best of you abilities. And most importantly keep up the standard of the Drum Section and always strive to improve.
Why i say this was the best decision is not because of the number of CIP hours i get and the 2 free cca points but rather the experience of being a bandsman. The times we spend creating music together, the times we get together as a band for activities, the times we gather together as schoolmates such as eating at the same table. And for sure these things we have and we do, the rest of the CCAs do not have.
i think you guys should know the days in band for the sec 4s are numbered. As in really really numbered...So i guess the sec 4s dont have much time left, and coming to think of it, time really passes pretty fast. If not for the enjoyable and fufilling times in band, i guess our time as being Sec 4s or rather a bandsman as a whole would not have fly pass us that fast.
And when BS calls for attention during sectionals dun come and dilly dally walk slowly
to your positions.
Pls you guys must be more lax with yourselfs.
This is the last syf for the sec 4s so pls pls give your best show for the drum section and especially the sec 4s.
And all of us need to improve tremendously(especially me i play like crap).
Ok and since the sec 4s have very limited time the band, pls at least give us the assurance that
the drum section can be self-reliant
- Leonard Khoo

Those who are unable to attend, do inform me at once.
Those who are absent for dumb excuses, shall be dealt severely.
Please make it a point to come down for sectionals, the attendance is very disappointing. Secondly, I'm expecting to see more people making an effort to come down after school to practise your instruments.
Your current standard is uber disgraceful.
Not only the two SYF pieces, but also National Anthem and School Rally.
Please work hard for your SYF this year.
A gold is a must.

Seize every opportunity to play well till SYF,
work hard guys.
ENDURE.
-Pin Ren

Guys, after reading the above posts by alumni, I think you all should reflect on your role in the band.
"Pls at least give us the assurance that the drum section can be self-reliant". What does this mean to you? Time and time again we ask you to practise yourself, but results don't show. Time and tide wait for no man, we have to buck up if we want to achieve anything. As Leonard says, "Most importantly keep up the standard of the Drum Section and always strive to improve". Do you think we fall you in for fun? What we're trying to fufill is the legacy of the section. The legacy of the best. I think we should get our act together, and work towards our goals. Keep up the standard that has been built by our seniors. Don't you feel the pride being lost? Being tarnished by trivial things like slacking? Discipline is key to ensure this. Honestly, right now, I can't say your discipline is bad. If not, why do we run out of things to scold you for? But I can't say it's good either, incomparable to what it once was. So after reading this, I hope you guys go reflect on this during this break from band, and when band resumes I want to see a significant improvement in attitude, including confidence, and be prepared to endure onerous rehearsals and practises for SYF. After exam period, it's going to be intensive SYF practise. But don't lose heart, always look back on the foundation we were built on, and on SYF day, walk onto the stage, the stage where two years ago we did wonders, with pride. Knowing that whatever comes, we have upheld our legacy and stayed true to our section.

Hello, long time no update!

Today we went to St. Patrick's Day parade, along Singapore river. Stoned in front of Sir Stamford Raffles for eternity, then fell in just behind the colour guard. First time started Josephian's march but randomly stopped cause the colour guard didn't move. Eventually marched off and it started to drizzle. Along the road, something happened, will not say here, and then ended up at UOB Plaza, where the entire contingent gathered to watch stuff.

After some waiting, played King of Pop and Ireland's call. Probably quite well recieved as applause and singing was heard during King of Pop, and they started singing along with Ireland's call.

After that we went back to school to debrief and dismiss.

Hey guys i think this blog is really dead. Please update it leh. To my point, i think you guys should know the days in band for the sec 4s are numbered. As in really really numbered...So i guess the sec 4s dont have much time left, and coming to think of it, time really passes pretty fast. If not for the enjoyable and fufilling times in band, i guess our time as being Sec 4s or rather a bandsman as a whole would not have fly pass us that fast. From the day we stepped into the band in Sec 1 till to the present, im very very sure that the Sec 4s did not regret their decision to walk through this unique and special journey with everyone else. And up till this day, i can say that joining the band was the best and most wonderful decision i have ever made.

And we have prepared for this competition for like many many arduous months. And its really this time that we must taste the feeling of a gold. Exchange

I shall rip my own post from my batch blog.

--

Hurray for SJIMB! Today's exchange was a success, although we could do much better than we showed. Show all the other bands that although we got a silver for last SYF, we are able to achieve. One cannot expect a gold medal to drop from the sky. Ouch. If other schools can attain a gold, why can't we? We stand for our rights and fight till the end. If everyone just puts in a little more effort, we can do it. Remember that bread does not magically appear on your table. Keep up the hardwork and determination. Show the judges that we can do it. We will achieve that gold medal. So please, put in more effort in your music. Exams are over, and you have all the time in the world to practise. Practice makes perfect. But if nobody's perfect, why practise? Remember, from our humble beginnings, the day we were born, onwards and upwards we move on and on. Kinda reminds me of the song, Check Yes Juliet. "Run Baby Run, don't ever look back." We must move forward, and always improve. Don't let our seniors down. They have done so much for the band, don't let it go to waste. As we enter the Singapore Conference Hall for SYF, remember that we have done our best. Remember that we can achieve our goals. Remember all the hardwork and effort you have put in. Remember your past mistakes, and don't make the same mistakes again. With this mindset, we shall walk onto the stage and shine like stars. If others can do it, why can't we? We are the best. Remember that SJIMB used to be the best band in Singapore. We shall uphold its name. Seek to strive and not to yield. Do your best. We are the mighty men of the SJIMB. Nothing can stop us.

due to mrs chua and mr tan's comments about our rubber band timing, i found this website that provides a free metronome. so. um.. snare drum and i guess timpani's part ( just imagine the timpanis) can be practised on this website. can practise sticking here also. practise the slow parts more cos they are harder. can be seen on ytd's parade. hari says so anw, when sufi and i were sec 1s.

attendance 8/10.
absent: richard, ben

sufi inverted the cymbals 5 times today.
=_________=

it appears that inverted cymbals are OFTEN caused by bad technique. I strongly recommend you check your technique. In addition, throw those cymbals away. Once they invert, they will never sound the same again, and they will just invert again shortly.
